October is the busiest time of year for the Careers Service. Graduate recruitment is at it's peak and the Autumn Fair means careers are at the front of many of your minds. This means our appointments fill up very quickly and it can be difficult to get a slot.
We appreciate this can be frustrating. Here are our top tips for appointment booking at this time of year:
- Log on at 8am - all of our Virgil Building appointments open for booking from 8am the day before. For the best chance, log on at 8am. We offer other appointments to specific groups that have different booking times - check on our website for more information
- Try Sunday - if you can come and see us on a Monday, then try logging on at 8am on a Sunday as there are likely to be less people attempting to book.
- Check back for cancellations - appointments are often cancelled throughout the day so do keep checking back.
- Your placement team can help - if you are looking for help with something placement related or need feedback on an application for a placement, get in touch with your Placement Team.
- Use our resources and Information Team - we have a huge range of resources. You might find they answer your questions and if they don't, they will ensure you are well-prepared for your appointment when you do get a slot. Check out the Resources tab here in MyFuture and the information pages on our website. If you need help accessing resources, then also make use of the Information Team. While we aren't Careers Advisers, we can point you to relevant material that can help you. Just click ask a question on MyFuture to contact us.
- Come back later - this might not be an option as you may need help now, particularly if you are in your final year. However, if you don't need advice urgently then do check back in a couple of weeks as the demand will be lower.
We hope these tips help you.
When you do book an appointment, ensure you attend it. And if you aren't able to make it, you can cancel your appointment in your MyFuture Dashboard. Please do this as soon as you can so that the slot can be made available to another student.
